“A Transformative Gift for Peace Neighborhood Center!”

Dear Peace Family –

I’m very excited to share that Peace has been selected to receive a $2 million gift as an awardee from the Yield Giving Open Call.

In March 2023, Yield Giving launched an Open Call for community-led, community-focused organizations—like Peace Neighborhood Center—whose explicit purpose is to enable individuals and families to achieve substantive improvement in their well-being. Thanks to a former Board member, Peace received the link to apply and submitted a grant application last June.

Peace was selected from among 6,353 community-based organizations from all 50 states, Washington D.C., and Puerto Rico—after a process that included multiple levels of review and feedback: a peer review round conducted by other applicants, review by an external Evaluation Panel recruited for their experience relevant to this cause, and final due diligence by the Yield Giving Open Call donor team.

I can’t overstate how ecstatic we were when we received the great news! This is a transformative gift for Peace Neighborhood Center—the largest single investment our agency has ever received.

We are honored, humbled, and incredibly grateful for the generous recognition of the work we do to help people change their lives. In the feedback Peace received throughout the process, we were recognized for the strength and diversity of our leadership and staff, our 52 years of experience and growth, the impact Peace has had on thousands of people’s lives, and the longevity of the community support we receive from our donors and funding partners.

I would be remiss if I didn’t thank all of you. Make no mistake, Peace Neighborhood Center would never be in a position to receive this kind of validation for the work we do without our dedicated staff, our former and current Board members, the many Peace Alumni who continue to stay in touch with the agency and support our work—and of course, our generous community of donors and funding partners who have faithfully sustained our mission and work over the last 52+ years. Thank you!

The Yield Open Call’s unrestricted support will make it possible for Peace to continue to build upon what you helped us start with our 50th Campaign: to build our long-term financial sustainability and invest in new initiatives— including the new HUB Community Resource Center Peace is currently developing in Ypsilanti Township.

On behalf of everyone here at Peace Neighborhood Center, we appreciate all the ways you continue to support our mission and work. We couldn’t do it without you.

With Gratitude,

Bonnie Billups, Jr.
Executive Director

County Mental Health Millage Funds Support Valued Partnership with the Ann Arbor Housing Commission to serve residents where they live.

For over 24 years, the Ann Arbor Housing Commission has provided vital space and financial support to Peace programs and community activities at two housing communities on Maple Road. More recently, Peace has also supported adult residents at Baker Commons, a public housing community for downtown Ann Arbor, providing case management services and mental health resources along with community-building and wellness activities. Additionally, this funding allows Peace to offer services to several smaller communities on South Seventh Street, Washington Street, Commerce Street and Siller Terrace.

AAHC’s funding support is made possible by the rebate the City of Ann Arbor gets from the County Sheriff's portion of the County Mental Health millage—which has been essential in Peace’s ability to provide dedicated staff and expand services at all three Satellite Center locations.

Having Peace staff onsite has proven to be a vital component of the wraparound support Peace provides to youth, families, and adults who live in these communities. Our partnership with the AAHC has enabled Peace to expand its reach and in-depth support for working families—over 150 households in total. 70 of these households reside in housing developments where Peace operates two Satellite Centers on Maple Road. Having access to Peace’s programming and activities right in their backyard has helped reduce barriers to participation and build engagement.

We cannot overstate how important this steady public funding has been for Peace. It represents a stable source of annual funding support that Peace can count on, not tied to a fluctuating economy or unpredictable environmental factors.

We are beyond grateful for this long-term support, and look forward to continuing this partnership for many years to come.

The Peace Center is like a home away from home. It really is special, both in the summer and during after school programs. This place feels like it is our roots. Even as you grow, you still are with your roots.
